After 5 years as a founder member of the Royal Seville Symphony Orchestra in Spain, also performing with the Goya Piano Quartet, she moved to London to free-lance with various groups including the National Symphony Orchestra, Apollo Chamber Orchestra, London Concertante and Hot Strings. Since returning to the Northwest in 2001 she has appeared with the Halle, BBC Philharmonic, Opera North and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestras, as well as English National Ballet, Manchester Camerata and Lancashire Sinfonietta. Esther currently teaches cello at the Lancaster Community Music Centre and privately. She has always made time for chamber music, teaching and playing for fun, as well as performing with Mercury Strings. Since graduating Jayne has been a full-time freelance viola player, dividing her work between quartet and orchestral playing. Jayne regularly performs and tours with some of the worlds finest conductors and soloists within a variety of professional orchestras. These include; the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, The Hallé Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, Manchester Concert Orchestra, Northern Chamber Orchestra, Opera North, English National Ballet, Welsh Chamber Orchestra, European Opera and Camerata Ireland. Jayne is also an experienced chamber musician. As a founder member of Litmus String Quartet she toured extensively across the UK and France and Belgium playing Manchester indie covers on electric viola. Litmus played support to iconic Manchester band Durutti Column as well as performing at the In The City festival and MIPIM in Cannes. The quartet released their covers album Litmus in 2005. With many years experience in string quartet playing and coaching Jayne has worked on numerous music education projects for the Society for the Promotion of New Music (SPNM) and the PRS foundation in a variety of locations across the UK. Jayne has recorded backing strings on many commercial recordings and can be heard on multiple classical and popular music albums and tracks over the last 25 years. She continued her studies for many years with Howard Davis of the Alberni Quartet. Her first orchestral post was for two years with the first violins in the Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet Orchestra. She then spent five years with the BBC Radio Orchestra in Maida Vale. The Orchestra recorded for Radio 2 and played in various combinations of string sections and Big Band. Susan then returned to her West Country roots. She joined the English String/Symphony Orchestra based in Malvern, taking part in many recordings and a tour of the USA with Yehudi Menuhin. During this time she also freelanced with BBC NOW and Midland Radio Orchestra and held teaching posts at Cheltenham Ladies College, Millfield Junior School and Wycliffe College. She then moved to Wales and spent nine years in the first violins of BBC National Orchestra of Wales, including as No. 6. Susan then returned to the ESO as Principal Second Violin and taught and coached in Monmouth. She led the Brecknock Sinfonia performing solos such as the Lark Ascending and Bach Double concerto and a Beethoven Romance. She was a member of the Vale quartet with principal players of BBC NOW. She also worked on an education project with Welsh National Opera. Since moving north in 2006 she has freelanced- primarily with the Hallé Orchestra and the Orchestra of Opera North, and also with Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, Manchester Concert Orchestra, Lancashire Sinfonietta, Royal Northern Sinfonia and CBSO. During her school years she played with the Lancashire Students Symphony Orchestra, leading them for her final 3 years and undertaking many foreign tours as both leader and soloist. She went on to study in London at the Guildhall School of music and Drama where her teachers were John Glickman and David Takeno. After graduating from GSMD she started freelancing with professional orchestras beginning with a month tour to the Salzburg Festival with the Hallé Orchestra performing Messiaen’s St Francois d’Assise. She went on to play with many other orchestras including the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, the Ulster Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Welsh National Opera and Birmingham Royal Ballet.
